LITERACY DAY 2019-2020

The International Literacy Day, September 8th was celebrated at St. Columban’s. The English Literary Club of the school performed a special assembly with the theme, “The world belongs to those who read”. The song, “Read a book to me…” brought to life characters like “Mother Goose Matilda”, “The Pied Piper of Hamelin”, “Peter Pan”, “Jasmine”, “Willy Wonka”. This expressed the importance of reading a book everyday over watching T.V. Various literary skills like Tongue Twisters, Poetry Reading were performed by the students of Classes IX and X. The Colourful Presentation of the story of “The Hare and the Tortoise” in its different versions, using charts inspired every child to read, enact and draw any story given to them innovatively. To make this day more meaningful and enhance the habit of reading in every individual at St.Columban’s, a “Readathon” was organized for 15 minutes. The entire school including The Principal, Teachers, Office Staff and the Workers read a book of their choice from 9.15 a.m. – 9.30 a.m. “A book is a dream you hold in your hand”. The English Literary Club of St.Columban’s believes that every child will treasure books as the dream and strive forward to inculcate the habit of reading into their daily routine.
