DIWALI 2019-2020

Diwali, the festival of lights was celebrated at St. Columban’s with a special assembly prepared by Std VII. The assembly began with the lighting of the Kuthuvilaku by the correspondent and the Principal, invoking God’s presence. The classical dance with lamps beautifully portrayed the true meaning of Diwali and added a spark of festivity to the occasion. The five main symbols of Diwali like the lamp, fire cracker, coin, sweets and rangoli were brought as live characters explaining the significance of the five day celebration of Diwali. Children played the role of various Gods like Lord Dhanvanti, Lord Krishna, Demon King Narakasuran, Lord Yamaraja Yamuna and Goddess Lakshmi bringing out the importance of each day of celebration. Songs like “Asatoma Sadgamya”, “Om Namo Bhagvathe”, “Light a candle for peace”, and “This little light of mine” added a lot of melody to the celebration. A short choreography depicting the various life values like love, peace, compassion, happiness and hope that the festival of Diwali brings was performed by the students. The Principal and the Correspondent addressed the students with the Diwali message “Each of us are called to be a divine lamp illuminating the dark corners of the world. Let us, in our own little way, spread the radiance of the diya that we carry, to every person we encounter”.
